Script Club

Ages 18 up

It’s like a book club… but with scripts. Each week, our facilitator will guide you through reading and discussing remarkable plays with a group of fascinating peers. The theme of Script Club this year is “Sexuality”. We’ll look at the history of western mores as represented on stage. We’ll read the play that sent Mae West to jail for 10 days, we’ll talk about how Measure for Measure teaches us about the Weinstein affair, we’ll look at how Aristophanes’ Lysistrata continues to be relevant. Thoughtful conversation, deeper understanding of old and new plays, complimentary refreshments and some hot plays to warm up your winter nights!

CABARET COMPANY

Ages 18 up
(by audition)
This is an intense musical performance course in which you will create a cabaret using scenes, monologues and musical numbers, as well as solos, duets and smaller ensembles.  Choreography will be set to challenge you at whatever level you’re at.  The entire ensemble will prepare the cabaret to perform for an audience in the spring of 2018.

This year’s company will work from an existing script and dive into the world of comedy through a contemporary slapstick look at Shakespeare’s plays. Musical theatre numbers throughout will explore the genre from Rocky Horror Picture Show to West Side Story.  Each performer cast in the show will be challenged to develop their skills as an actor, singer and dancer. Previous experience is an asset to this program; although you needn’t be advanced in all three of the disciplines, just willing to dive in, work hard, pushing your own person boundaries. We need Kings, Queens, Drag Kings, Drag Queens, fools and sword fighters, even a ghost…  Company members cast in this production are required to attend all regularly programmed rehearsals as well as additional rehearsals to be scheduled closer to the performance. Participants will also need to work independently on their scripts, as there are lines to learn!

Cabaret Company will be directed by Erin McGrath who was just seen performing in “Ubuntu: The Cape Town Project” for Prairie Theatre Exchange. She performs for Regional Theatres across the country. Erin is a graduate of the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts in Toronto.

Entrance to the course is by audition and interview on Saturday, December 16th.

Please prepare a SHORT comedic monologue –  1 minute tops, and 1 verse/Chorus of a song of their choice, can be pop song or musical theatre (must provide accompaniment either on a track or singing a cappella)
