With Thomas Morgan Jones
Join us this summer for a performance and creation intensive led by incoming Artistic Director Thomas Morgan Jones.
THE SUZUKI METHOD OF ACTOR TRAINING
Developed by internationally acclaimed director Tadashi Suzuki and the Suzuki Company of Toga, the Suzuki Method’s seeks to heighten the actors emotional and physical power and their commitment to everyone moment on stage by returning the wholeness of the human body to the theatrical context. It is a rigorous physical discipline that acts as fundamental training for actors in the use of their bodies, their energy, and their voice.
Originally created by choreographer Mary Overlie as the Six Viewpoints, SITI Company expanded the training and adapted it for actors. It’s primary focus is on elements of time and space in training that is intuitive, spontaneous, and improvisational. It helps a company of actors to generate material, gives them tools to repeat and interrogate their work and instincts, and creates ensemble.

A movement intensive with Tanja Woloshen
We are living in chaotic and confusing times. Dancing can be a radical way to open our channels and reconnect with our bodies with strength, confidence, and power. Through mind-body-spirit exercises, we can nourish our personal stories to regain trust and play, transforming confusion and chaos into simplicity and harmony.
This workshop will draw heavily from Butoh dance, including notions of transformation, metaphysics, energetic bodies, and hidden histories of the body. Basic skills we will be working on: Butoh walking, ma-space, collage, inside/outside self-awareness, appearing/disappearing, the hanging body, the friendly shadow, and the shifting trickster.
This all may sound intense, but we will get fit, and have fun!

Voice-Over: Radio Plays
Ages 18 and up
Theatre of the ear has been around a long time, reaching its greatest audience with the advent of radio in the 1920s. In this era, radio series were common fare, as they are on television today. Some were soap operas, detective stories, and situational comedies or shows featuring comedy troupes. One of those troupes was The Goons. Comprised of Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan and Harry Secombe, their zany comedic sensibility influenced generations of British and international comedians such as those of Monty Python’s Flying Circus. This radio drama class will examine, analyse, and ultimately record a Goon Show script before a live audience.
